Natural Resources Inventory Project Kicks Off

The Village of Rhinebeck, as part of our Climate Smart efforts, is creating a Natural Resources Inventory. An NRI is essentially a collection of maps with narrative text explaining what is found on those maps, most often used as a planning tool.

The Village, the Town of Rhinebeck, and Town of Hyde Park are grateful to be receiving expert support from the DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program to jointly conduct an NRI process. We also thank Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County (CCE Dutchess) for their mapping assistance. The project kicked off in Spring 2021 and anticipates completion in Summer 2022.

I’m leading the Village-side of the project. You can find out more about the project on this webpage, where I’ve also linked some sample NRIs if you’re curious about the format:

The public is welcome to attend the monthly working meetings. The process also calls for dedicated public engagement sessions, which I’ll be sure to publicize via Village channels.

Thank you so much for your interest, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have ideas or questions—
