The Village of Rhinebeck is currently accepting applications for a Planning board position to serve a term that will end on April 1, 2026. Please submit a resume and letter of interest to the Village Clerk, Martina McClinton by June 24, 2022.

Planning board appointments are made by the Mayor with approval of the Board of Trustees.

TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately 8-10 hours per month

The Planning Board consists of five (5) citizens from the Village of Rhinebeck. The Planning Board has final administrative authority on land use applications in the Village of Rhinebeck and may act in an advisory capacity to the Village Board on planning, community development, and land use matters.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Attendance at Meetings

·        Regular Planning Board Meetings, monthly on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, at 7PM.

·        Special Village Board Meetings, as requested by the Village Board.

·        Work sessions, site visits and special presentations.

Administration of the Village of Rhinebeck Code

The Village Planning Board is charged with implementing the Village zoning and historic preservation laws. To this end, it reviews site plans, special permits, subdivisions, and signs. Requests are approved or denied based on the board’s application of the Village zoning and historic preservation code.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES OF PLANNING BOARD MEMBERS:

·        Must be a resident of the Village of Rhinebeck.

·        Willingness to study, review, and complete orientation and training materials for planning board members that is available on the New York State web site, and through NYCOM.

·        Familiarity with, or willingness to learn about, land use and planning issues, zoning and subdivision processes, SEQRA (environmental review) requirements and procedures, site plan and subdivision evaluation, and best practices in land use planning and development.

·        Attendance at bi-monthly Planning Board Meetings to review and discuss upcoming agenda items, and to review and make decisions on land use applications.

·        Have an interest in comprehensive community planning, zoning, architecture, and related use issues as well as the protection of the environment.

·        Ability to maintain confidentiality on all matters before the Planning Board.

·        Have the ability to relate to others and their position or viewpoint.

·        Have the ability, communication skills, patience, and willingness to encourage, accept, and evaluate input from citizens and other interested parties potentially affected by actions before the Planning Board.

·        Be capable of working together as a team with fellow members and other Village/Town boards and officials, and to conduct dialogue between applicants and Planning Board members in a public meeting.

 

A demonstrated record of community service is a plus but not required.
